Hello Electric City family!

Let’s dive in and celebrate what

makes our region shine!

πŸ”Œ Duke Energy Proposes Natural Gas Plant in Anderson County

Energy meets opportunity: Duke Energy has applied to build a new natural gas–fired power plant in Anderson County governor.sc.govgreenvillebusinessmag.com. This proposed facility would modernize local energy infrastructure, enhance grid reliability, and support growth as more homes, farms, and businesses power up in the region.

While specifics like location and capacity are still under review, Duke Energy’s proposal underwent preliminary regulatory filings in early June. A public hearing is expected later this summer. If approved, the new plant could:

  • Reduce power outages during peak demand

  • Provide stable and cleaner-burning backup power compared to older coal plants

  • Support economic development by ensuring energy capacity meets new business demands

Such infrastructure investment highlights how Anderson continues to power forwardβ€”literally and figuratively. Residents will want to stay tuned for public comment opportunities. Meanwhile, the project signals confidence in our region’s growth and the utility’s commitment to meeting future demand.

βš™οΈ Southern Wall Products Brings Jobs & Growth to Anderson

Big news for the local economy: Southern Wall Products, Inc. is launching its first South Carolina plant in Anderson this June.

The $23 million investment and 28 new jobs mark a positive stride toward expanding manufacturing presence in our region.

Located at 1632 Pearman Dairy Road, the facility will produce drywall joint compounds, setting compounds, ceiling textures, and primers under the renowned β€œRuco” brand. The move brings southern-based operations to heartland communities – and is a great fit for Anderson’s industrial legacy.

Local and state officials have applauded the announcement. Governor Henry McMaster described Southern Wall’s investment as β€œfurther proof that manufacturing companies recognize the benefits of doing business in South Carolina.” County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn echoed that sentiment, saying, β€œWe are committed to recruiting well‑paying jobs, and Southern Wall Products will be a great fit for our community.” governor.sc.gov

With production slated to kick off this June, Southern Wall is recruiting nearby talent. This plant strengthens Anderson's reputation as a manufacturing hubβ€”home to 230+ manufacturers and more than 22 global companies

It's exciting to welcome a new employer, especially one creating skilled positions and boosting the county’s economic momentum.
