Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Start of The Franklin Affordable Housing Project in Downtown Anderson |
City officials and community leaders celebrate the launch of a $25 million development aimed at providing 68 affordable apartments for local workers and families. |
City officials and community leaders recently gathered at the intersection of West Franklin Street and South Murray Avenue to break ground on The Franklin, a $25 million affordable housing development set to deliver 68 new apartments for low-income families in downtown Anderson.
The Franklin will offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, catering to individuals and families earning at or below 20%, 50%, and 60% of the area median income. Each apartment will feature modern appliances, washer and dryer connections, ceiling fans, and walk-in closets, ensuring comfortable living spaces for residents.
Community amenities will include a community room, fitness facility, playground, and on-site laundry, fostering a supportive environment for tenants. The development's strategic location near downtown aims to enhance walkability and access to public transit, promoting community connectivity. |
Anderson City Manager David McCuen emphasized the project's significance, stating, "This project is a cornerstone here at Franklin and Murray Avenue. It's a $26 million workforce housing project with 68 apartments. We're very excited about the project as it will not only be a place for development here towards downtown, but because it brings new workforce housing to our community."
City Councilwoman Dr. Beatrice Thompson expressed her enthusiasm, calling the new complex "a blessing" and the fulfillment of a long-held dream. She highlighted the project's potential to invigorate and stimulate both the community and the city of Anderson.
Construction is expected to be completed within 12 to 16 months, with the first units ready for occupancy by spring 2027. This development marks a significant milestone in Anderson's efforts to provide inclusive growth and accessible housing options for its residents.
