If your garden has ever left you staring at a struggling tomato plant and asking, “Okay… what do you want from me?” — the answer might be hiding right under your feet.

The Anderson County Cooperative Extension Office is inviting local residents to attend Soil Health 101, a free horticulture workshop designed to help participants better understand the soil their plants depend on.

The class will be held Tuesday, September 22, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Anderson County Cooperative Extension Office, located at 1428 Pearman Dairy Road in Anderson.

It All Starts With the Soil

Healthy plants need more than sunshine and water, and this workshop will introduce participants to some of the fundamentals that can make a big difference in the garden.

The class will cover soil sampling basics, including why soil testing and observation can be important first steps in successful plant management.

Participants will also learn about soil pH, nutrients and other soil characteristics that can affect plant growth. The goal isn't just to understand what's happening underground, but to learn how to put that information to practical use.

The workshop will discuss using soil-test results and soil-health strategies to improve plants, potentially reduce costs and help protect the environment.

Free to Attend, But Registration Is Required

There is no cost to attend Soil Health 101, but participants must pre-register by September 21.

For Anderson-area homeowners, gardeners or anyone who's been trying to figure out why one corner of the yard grows beautifully while another seems determined to grow absolutely nothing, this could be a useful hour well spent.

Space and registration information are available through the event listing below.
