Answer: The Blue Ridge Railroad, originally chartered in 1852 with plans to connect Anderson through the mountains toward Knoxville. While the tunnels were never fully completed due to the Civil War, the line did eventually connect Anderson to Walhalla and played an important role in local transportation history.
