Airport’s Secondary Runway Restoration Nearing Completion |
Anderson Regional Airport Enhances Infrastructure and Community Amenities |
Anderson Regional Airport is on the verge of completing a comprehensive reconstruction of its secondary runway, a project that underscores its dedication to both operational excellence and community engagement.
The secondary runway, originally constructed in 1966, is undergoing a full-depth reclamation process, a significant undertaking that sets Anderson apart from neighboring airports in Spartanburg, Greenwood, and Aiken, which have decommissioned their secondary runways in recent years.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the airport is enhancing its public amenities. A new aviation-themed playground is set to be constructed, funded by a $350,000 grant secured through the efforts of Senator Mike Gambrell and Representative Don Chapman, supplemented by private contributions from the community.
Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “This project will provide additional recreation opportunities for children living in western Anderson County, and we expect its relationship with the airport will encourage some of these kids to consider careers in aviation and other STEM-related activities.”
These developments reflect Anderson Regional Airport’s commitment to enhancing both its operational capabilities and its role as a community hub, ensuring it remains a vital asset for regional aviation and local residents alike. |
