Broadway Lake Landing Gets $1.08 Million for Major Upgrades
Anderson County secures state funding for new boat ramp, accessible dock and kayak launch at McFall’s Landing
Big improvements are on the horizon for one of Anderson County's favorite places to enjoy the water.
Anderson County has secured a $1,080,000 state legislative grant to upgrade McFall’s Landing at Broadway Lake, bringing long-needed changes to the lake's primary public access point.
The grant, sponsored by State Senator Michael W. Gambrell, will fund reconstruction of aging water-access facilities.
Why the upgrades are needed
According to Anderson County, the existing access area is more than 80 years old, and its infrastructure is failing.
The county says the current facilities offer limited functionality and lack proper access that meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
That means the project isn't just about a fresh appearance; it is about making the lake more usable and accessible for residents and visitors.
What's included in the $1.08 million project?
The funded work includes a new two-lane concrete boat ramp to replace aging access facilities.
A new ADA-compliant ground-out floating dock is planned for boat boarding and fishing.
Improvements will also include ADA-compliant truck and trailer parking and an ADA-compliant floating kayak launch.
The project will provide shoreline stabilization, improved green space, and the planning and design activities needed to carry out the work.
Local leaders welcome the investment
District Two Councilman Glenn Davis called Broadway Lake a unique community resource and said the improvements will help preserve access for people in central and western Anderson County.
District Three Councilman Greg Elgin noted that constituents had specifically requested the improvements and emphasized McFall’s Landing's role as the lake's primary access point.
Elgin also credited the partnership with Senator Gambrell and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
Senator Gambrell described Broadway Lake as a hidden treasure available to everyone and expressed confidence that the improvements will make it an even more special place for families.
What happens next?
The county's announcement confirms the grant funding and outlines the improvements, but does not specify a construction start date or completion schedule.
For boaters, anglers, kayakers and families who enjoy Broadway Lake, the investment represents a significant step toward a safer, more accessible waterfront experience.
And for Anderson County, it means an 80-plus-year-old public access area is finally in line for some much-needed attention. |
