Anderson County, SC — A longtime Upstate restaurant is closing its doors. The Chicken Basket, a local restaurant that has served the Anderson County community since December 1999, announced it will close for good this Friday, September 18, after nearly 27 years in business.

The closure marks the end of an era for a restaurant that became a familiar stop along Highway 24 for generations of local families.

Why They're Closing

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the ownership team explained that unexpected financial obligations discovered after taking ownership — combined with mounting repair costs and other expenses — simply became more than the business could sustain.

"Unfortunately, since taking ownership, we have been faced with unexpected financial obligations that we were not aware of at the time of purchase, along with repairs and other expenses that have simply become more than we are able to take on," the announcement stated.

Final Days

The Chicken Basket will remain open through Friday during regular hours, though the team warns that some regular menu items may become unavailable as they work through remaining inventory.

"We will be open while supplies last," the message noted, encouraging loyal customers to stop by for one last meal.

A Message of Gratitude

Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, the tone of the closure announcement was one of deep appreciation for the community. The owners called it an "honor" to serve local families over the years.

"Thank you for every meal you shared with us and every time you chose to support the Chicken Basket," the message read. "We will forever be grateful."

Community Impact

For nearly three decades, The Chicken Basket was more than just a place to grab a meal — it was part of the fabric of Anderson County. Regulars knew the staff by name, and the restaurant became a reliable gathering spot along Highway 24.

The final service this Friday will likely draw a crowd of longtime supporters looking to say goodbye to a business that clearly meant something to the people it served.
