Downtown Anderson has officially welcomed a new (and yet very familiar) chapter in one of its historic restaurant spaces.

The building on East Whitner Street next to the Mid-Town Parking Garage - formerly home to Giles Restaurant and later The Meeting Place - is now Wilhelmina’s Kitchen: Meat & Three – Food for the Soul.

For longtime Anderson residents, that location carries decades of dining memories. From classic Southern lunches to gathering spots for regulars, it has always been known for comfort and community. Now, Wilhelmina’s Kitchen is bringing the beloved “Meat & Three” concept back to life.

If you’re new to the term, a Meat & Three is a Southern staple - choose one main entrée (fried chicken, roast beef, meatloaf, etc.) and pair it with three classic sides like collards, mac & cheese, cabbage, rice & gravy or sweet potatoes.

Their motto says it all:
“Cooked to taste, not by recipe.”

That means soulful, seasoned, homestyle food - the kind that reminds you of Sunday dinners and family tables.

Another bonus? They’re open Sundays - something downtown diners have often asked for.

As downtown Anderson continues to grow with new restaurants and retail, it’s always special to see a space return to its roots with traditional Southern cooking. Wilhelmina’s Kitchen blends nostalgia with new energy, and that’s exactly what keeps downtown vibrant.

If you’ve been craving real comfort food, this might be your next lunch stop.
